Learning Through Real-Life Moments

You’ve probably seen the videos:

  • A car stalled on the tracks
  • A pedestrian trying to outrun flashing red lights
  • A close call that makes you watch twice

This is Trains Don’t Swerve, a rail safety series built around real moments. Not simulations. Not staged scenarios. These are actual incidents captured on security cameras where, thankfully, no one was injured.

Seeing these incidents, it’s easy to think, “That could have gone a lot worse.” The goal is to show how safe choices make all the difference.

Why We Started Sharing These Moments

This all started with a viral video. A vehicle was rear-ended and stalled on the FrontRunner tracks, where it was struck by a FrontRunner train. No one was hurt, but the video spread quickly. It showed up across social media and news platforms worldwide, reshared again and again, with thousands of comments.

A major theme emerged in this thread of comments. People were unsure about is how they should handle this situation should they find themselves in that predicament. Some blamed the train. Others debated what the driver could have done differently. There were a lot of opinions, but not a lot of answers.

That is where we saw a major opportunity.

You deserve to know what safe behavior around rails actually looks like in real situations. That is part of our broader commitment to public safety and making sure every rider, driver, biker, and pedestrian feels informed and aware of transit safety.

What You Are Really Watching

A Trains Don’t Swerve video is not just a close call or a headline. It is a reminder.

You are watching a decision, a moment where someone misjudged timing, where a signal was ignored, where a safer choice could have been made.

The truth is simple: these situations are avoidable.

Trains cannot swerve. They cannot stop quickly. They rely on everyone around the tracks to make safe, informed decisions. That shared responsibility is what keeps us all safe.

Train Fact:

It takes the average freight train traveling 55 mph more than a mile — the length of 18 football fields — to stop.

Why It Matters to You

Whether crossing tracks in a car, walking near a crossing, or biking and scootering through areas where trains operate, every interaction is a moment to stay aware and make safe choices.

That is why we continue to invest in safety and security across the system and why we reinforce simple actions that make a real difference, like looking both ways, respecting signals, and never stopping on the tracks.

Programs like See Something? Say Something! are part of that shared effort to keep everyone safe.

A Week That Made an Impact

You may have noticed more of these videos popping up during Rail Safety Week.

That was intentional.

During Rail Safety Week, we used the theme Every Sign Tells a Story to share a new video every day. Each video highlighted a different scenario where people made choices that could have had much worse outcomes.

The response was immediate — people watched, commented, and shared, recognizing just how preventable these situations were. This awareness is exactly what the series is built for.

What Comes Next

Trains Don’t Swerve will continue throughout the year, sharing real moments as an opportunity to pause, learn, and think differently the next time you approach the tracks.

Every ride, every crossing, every interaction with transit is a shared space.

When you stay aware and make safe choices, you are not just protecting yourself. You are helping protect everyone around you.

We Move Awareness.
We Move You.
